Garba-Raas

Ramzat group is  performing Garba- raas “vaagyo re dhol”.

Garbo is a traditional Gujarati folk dance. Women in Kutch, Gujarat were confined within the four walls of their homes and the kitchen in the past. Even the garba dance was only for men. The sole opportunity for women to leave the house was to go to a faraway pond to fetch water for the whole family, in an area that was suffering from drought. And then, one day they meet a dholi (drummer) in the middle of the desert and began doing garba. The women finally find freedom in the traditional garba dance.
